Who knew a praying mantis could be this small!

I was in the garden picking basil for pesto when I noticed a tiny praying mantis on a basil leaf. I put my finger next to it and the mantis climbed up.

The insect was so small, I could barely feel it on my finger. With the mantis still standing on my pointer finger, I rushed inside to get the camera and returned to shoot this video.

  1. What a tiny baby. You have good eyes, it could have been mistaken for a mosquito.

    1. I'm just glad I didn't miss it. I was there to pick basil for pesto but this little guy drew me in instead.

  2. I have 2 little pods just waiting to explode with hundreds of tiny babies ! So excited that I can hardly wait. When I was a kid in New England, I found a pod (not knowing what it was, but it looked cool).I gently tucked it into my top dresser drawer. In no time, my bedroom was covered in babies. Mom was dismayed, but with some work, I won the science fair the following year. Look closely there probably are more, but watch out, mommy mantis will eat them. Big smile for you ! Regards, Susan
